Factory Friday

WOW WOW WOW! I was so impressed with our class today, and their hard work and cooperation in today's factory.  They took their jobs very seriously, and made some EXCELLENT products!  I hope you can come shop and eat breakfast with your child at Holiday Cafe on Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30.  I still need a few parents to help work 30 to 60 minute shifts on Wednesday morning.  If you could possibly help out, please let me know!  I will send home a schedule hopefully on Monday, so just drop me an email this weekend and I'll plug you into a shift.  :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Happy 60-degree December!

Monday

Tonight students should prepare for their Social Studies Test over the Midwest States.  They will have to match states and capitals of the Midwest.  They will have to match the numbers on the map to the states of the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest.  They will have a few multiple choice questions that we went over in class today...so students should reread chapter 8.

We also are trying to do an art project tomorrow, students need an empty plastic bottle such as a water bottle.

Thanks!

Wonderful Wednesday

Today, I share Mrs. Rase's thoughts...

Greetings!
Tonight for homework some students need to finish a Mental Math division worksheet.  In reading, students need to read Chapters 24 and 25 and complete their Reading Response Journal.  Some students also had to finish a paper for Language about Similes and metaphors.  They only had to write one of each on the worksheet, they did not have to complete the entire worksheet.

The cut off for Midterms was Tuesday.  Those will be going home on Monday.  Don’t forget Book Projects for Because of Winn-Dixie are due on Monday, Nov. 19.

We will be working on giving our best effort over the next few weeks.  I am looking for students who will push themselves to go the extra mile for the sake of learning and in the area of behavior.  Some students are struggling with giving their personal best and not settling for the minimum.

Terrific Tuesday

Greetings!  Today was a bit of a rough day...we have many students who are not completing assignments (like Daily Reviews--waiting for teachers to spoon-feed them answers), making careless mistakes, and whose goal is mediocrity. (Direct Quote: "It's ok if I just get a three on that open response.  That's what I was working for anyway...")  THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!  Please discuss the importance of trying your best, working to your potential, and striving to be better than average.  Attitudes are contagious...and it's spreading like wildfire!

Tonight's homework is:
  • Reading: Log; read chapters 21-22 and reflect in reading journal
  • Spelling: write words 3x each--due tomorrow (many students are not doing these assignments...)
  • Social Studies: quiz over Midwest states and capitals will be next Tuesday, November 20th. (NE and SE states are also included, but not their capitals.)
Today was the cutoff for midterm grades.  Midterms will come home on Monday.  Also, please remember that this is the midpoint for the grading period, and that your child should have at least half of their AR points for the 9-weeks by this point.  With such a busy November and December, students often run out of time and panic at the end when they cannot earn their points...

Thanks!

Winn Dixie Project

This is the letter from Mrs. Rase about Winn Dixie projects...in case you didn't see it, or need to refer to it later! :)

November 5, 2012
Dear Parents,
We will be reading the book Because of Winn-Dixie for the next couple of weeks.  Instead of giving a unit written test, we are going to let students complete a project!  This will count as a test grade.  Since all of us have read the same book, it would be nice to have a variety of projects to represent it.  I am including a list of ideas to choose from or you can come up with your own.  I will count this for a READING GRADE (counted as a test score) and will be worth 100 points.  This grade will be based upon the following:
Neatness (20)
Creativity (20)
Effort (20)
Knowledge of the Book (10)
Presentation (20)-Speaking clearly (5), eye contact (5), appropriate volume (5), correct grammar (5)
Turned in on time (10)
Students may have some class time in the afternoon to work on their projects (next week), but more time will need to be spent on it at home.  This project will be due on Monday, November 19.  Please let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks!
Mrs. Rase, Mrs. Garffie, and Mrs. Ingram

Look on the back for some ideas or create your own!

Wacky Wednesday

I forgot to mention on Monday that our SGE Mock Election went wonderfully! (Romney won at SGE, I'm sure you heard.)

Here is some information from our SGE-nouncements.  If you don't subscribe to this, go to www.scott.kyschools.us and sign up!

Baskets will be assembled in the next two days for the auction!  Please send items in!  A HUGE thank you to those who donated gift cards to our basket.

The silent auction list is up for the activities with teachers and staff.  There is a wide range of activities from golf to calling announcements to building a gingerbread house to having a meal provided and EVERYTHING in between!  Come into the foyer to enter your bids!  Silent auction will close at 5:30 on Friday.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday.  Remember dinner begins at 5:30, the book character contest is at 5:30-5:45, and the chorus sings at 6:30.  The auction is scheduled to start at 7 and end by 9.  Bring a veteran with you to be honored during the chorus performance!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STUDENTS and TEACHERS!!  Through their hard work on the KPREP assessment last spring, we earned a PROFICIENT level score!  That means that our overall score is better than 70% of all elementary schools in the state!

Tonight's homework is:
  1. Reading: Log; Read Winn Dixie chapters 6-8 and reflect in journal
  2. Math: a few students needed to finish word problems from class this morning
  3. Social Studies: label states and capitals of the Midwest; label the Great Lakes (add Lake Ontario); use book page 86 to help.  (*ALL STUDENTS)
PLEASE wear orange SGE t-shirts for the field trip tomorrow!!!
Thanks!
